Soil improvement

Soil Improvement | Maintenance

Top dressing:
To produce level-ness and to improve soil quality a mixture of sand, peat, soil and fertilizer is required. The sand must be free of lime. The best time to carry out top dressing is autumn, possibly September. A suitable aeration of the soil should also be carried out.

If after all these measures you are still having no success in regenerating your lawn, then more far-reaching measures are necessary.

This can include:
• Create slits
• Scarifying

Slit:
Approx 100 slits / square meter which are 1cm wide at a distance of about 8cm, up to 10cm deep, 10 – 15 cm long which are made with a specialized slit machine. The tears in the ground lead to the exhaustive relaxation and airing of the surface. However, this can also cause some ruggedness but this can be improved by top dressing.

Scarifying:
With scarifying a drainage system or more water-permeable layers are achieved with a special device. The slits are filled in the same operation with a permeable material (sand, clay). The excavation must be removed; width, distance and depth of the slits can be varied. The aim is a better aeration of the ground and better water utilization.

It will only be possible to decide which measure is necessary by viewing the site and carrying out an analysis of the ground.
