Lawn Repair | Maintenance

Besides the customary maintenance measures like fertilization, cutting and watering there are additional measures you can take to achieve the optimum from your lawn. If this is not done the surface will compress and matting of the lawn can occur which can lead to disturbances of the water and the nutrient hold in the soil. This can prevent healthy lawn growth, reduce the loading capacity of the lawn, sward density and regeneration properties decrease, weed infestation and illness susceptibility will also increase.

Verticuting (Deep Scarifying):
For your lawn to grow it needs air and light. Over the course of time and in particular if the cut material is left on the lawn after mowing, a lawn felt develops form living and dead plant material, this should be removed every spring. With verticuting the lawn felt is torn open on the surface and removed, the broad-leaved weeds and moss are broken down. With the felt dismantling, the activities of the ground organisms are improved. Outdoor sports areas should be verticuted (scarified) at least once a year. Preferably during the main growth period of April / May.

Aerating:
Surface compaction is removed and root spaces are ventilated by aerating. Hollow pointed sting like devices are dug into the earth and pull up plugs of up to 10-cm depth which must be then removed. Afterwards the surface is top dressed and fertilized. To be effective at least 200 holes / square meter should be produced.

Top dressing:
Top dressing with sharply washed sand as a single measure or in combination with verticuting or aerating has the following advantages: • Any uneven surfaces can be evened out

• The ground texture is improved
• The ground becomes more permeable
• Reduces compaction

Over-seeding:
If the gaps have become too big in a lawn and will not close by regeneration or if the lawn needs to be refreshed by more valuable newer grasses, then over -seeding is necessary. The over-seeding can be carried out after measures like verticuting, aerating and top dressing. For over-seeding it is advisable to use a suitable coated seed mixture for surface sowing.
